Buffalo Mother's Day
Saturday, June 26, 2010
2 - 5 PM
Please RSVP
We would like to invite you to attend our annual open house. This is a nice opportunity for you to spend an afternoon in the country. Our bison mother's will have about 40 new bison babies to show off to you. We will start the afternoon with Buffalo Burger BBQ and then proceed with a tour of the ranch. Viewing the bison herds, the corral system and we will talk about how our bison are raised, local and sustainable agriculture.
We ask you to please RSVP so that we are prepared with enough burgers for all.
Each year we ask for a minimum $5.00 per person donation to a charity in exchange for the tour and lunch. This we have chosen to once again support the Trans Himalayan Aid Society (TRAS). All donation received will be donated to support a new school in Simikot, in the Humla disrict in north western Nepal. This new school will provide education for 20 students, half of them girls, who have never had an education before. Part of the project will be to train teachers and cooks for the school. Humla is the poorest district in Nepal and it's harsh climate limits agricultural production. The cooks will be trained to provide more nutritious meals for the children using locally produced foods including barley, which is more nutritious than the imported white rice. Access to Simikot is a 20 day trek or by very limited air transport. TRAS is working to fund and support a local NGO - READI NEPAL to undertake this project. The project cost for this year is $11,621.00. We have been supporting TRAS projects for several years. They are a volunteer based NGO from Vancouver that founded in 1962 as the Tibetan Refugee Aid Society. Almost 100% of the money they raise is used to fund projects run by local expertise instead of paying high priced executives and consultants in western nations. We encourage you to visit their website and consider an additional donation.
